Participants will leave the workshop with:
-Tricks for “backing into” writing your show. Especially if writing in solitude isn’t your thing but maybe “writing on your feet” is.
-An understanding of how we instinctively tell stories to our friends, and how that can also be used onstage.
-Tools for making a story more dynamic for an audience and in your body.
-Tips for how to find humor in absolutely depressing material so you can find the strength to share it aloud.How to make the whole solo thing feel a lot less lonely— onstage and off.

Kristina Wong
is a Doris Duke Artist Award winner, Guggenheim Fellow and the first Asian American woman to be named Pulitzer Prize Finalist in Drama. Notable solo shows include: Wong Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, The Wong Street Journal, Kristina Wong for Public Office, and the now touring Kristina Wong #FoodBankInfluencer.
Josefina Lopez
is the original playwright of the Broadway Musical Real Women Have Curves and the co-screenwriter of the Sundance award winning film Real Women Have Curves. She loves teaching dramatic writing and empowering actors and writers.
Roxana Ortega
is an award-winning actor, writer and multi-hyphenate artist whose solo show Am I Roxie? recently world premiered at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles and garnered her an LA Drama Critics Circle nomination for Best Solo Performance.
As an actor, she has guest starred on For the People, New Girl, Santa Clarita Diet and NCIS and appeared in films like Miss Congeniality 2 opposite Sandra Bullock. Her voice credits include the Emmy-award winning The Casagrandes, Star Trek: Lower Decks, Call of Duty and The Super Mario Brothers Galaxy Movie.
As a writer, she honed her voice through improvising, writing and performing sketch in the Groundlings Sunday Company, Ammunition Theater Company's Playwright’s Lab and storytelling all over Los Angeles, including at The Moth GrandSLAM.
Roxie was born in Los Angeles and raised in Fullerton, CA by a Peruvian mother and a Chicano father. She loves travel, teaching and more things than she could possibly list here.
